15 Members of the CRC named 23-man USRowing Roster for World Champions:

For most of 2022, the members of the California Rowing Club (CRC) have endured rigorous, early-morning training exercises on the waters of the Oakland Estuary. They’ve competed in high-stakes national qualification races against some of the top Americans in the field. They’ve travelled to Europe and faced Olympic medal winners from countries across the globe.

This week, those tireless efforts were rewarded.

USRowing recently announced its roster for the upcoming World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, and every single member of the CRC team has been named to the 2022 United States National Team. Of the 23 members of the men’s heavyweight rowing team, an astounding 15 represent the CRC.

That includes all 11 of the CRC members who have been with the program year round, plus four newcomers who joined the squad this summer, training under the tutelage of Coach Mike Teti and Skip Kielt.

Ben Davison, who captured the Men’s Singles Sculls event at the 2022 National Selection Regatta back in April, will represent Team USA at that competition in Prague. Justin Best and Michael Grady, who took home the Men’s Pairs title at the National Selection Regatta II in May, and fresh off a bronze medal performance at the World Cup Regatta, will compete in that event at the World Championships.

The Men’s Eight will be comprised of six CRC athletes—Chris Carlson, Liam Corrigan, Andrew Gaard, Michael Knippen, Pieter Quinton and Nick Rusher. And the Men’s Four team includes three members of the CRC—Rhett Burns, Henry Hollingsworth and Gus Rodriguez.

Finally, CRC’s Sorin Kosyzk will take part in the Men’s Double Sculls alongside Thomas Phifer of the Penn Athletic Club. Oliver Bub and Andrew Leroux, also of the CRC, have been named as alternate team members.

“I think the results validate the training that these athletes have put in at our club,” said Coach Mike Teti. “This is something we’ve been working toward all year. I think this is also proof in how the new club model USRowing has outlined for the National Team system can work.”

“This was the vision of Andy Rogers and the Rogers Foundation when they founded the California Rowing Club. We are incredibly grateful for all their support and guidance of this program.”

The 2022 World Rowing Championships will take place from September 18 – 25 in Racice, Czech Republic. The competition is a key part in the journey toward the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
